The rumors are true. (Ed.: There were rumors?) Starting with our April 6+7 return to the great outdoors, the Williamsburg Smorgasburg and Flea are moving. But rest easy! Unlike those woeful summers gone by when bff’s departed for states you barely knew the capital of—we’re just moving one block north, to a giant parcel inside beautiful East River State Park, at the corner of Kent Ave. and North 7th Street. For all intents and purposes, everything else you know and love about the markets will stay the same.
The schedule will remain: Smorg on Saturdays (11am-6pm) and the Flea on Sundays (10am-5pm). (Fort Greene’s Flea continues on Saturdays, and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Smorg is back on Sundays.) The big concrete slab is the same size as the old site (but no more gravel/dust!). The skyline view hasn’t gone anywhere. Plus, the park’s got a lot of fun stuff planned for the 2013 spring and summer seasons—including installation art and some new playground equipment.
Mostly we’re happy to stay on the waterfront in Williamsburg, which now feels like home. We also love supporting what is truly one of New York’s most special parks. Here’s hoping for an even better 2013 season!
