On Saturday at Smorgasburg we celebrate perhaps the best day of the year—National Ice Cream Day! Seriously, it’s a whole day devoted to how much we love ice cream, at an all-day frozen party with our pals at The Brooklyn Kitchen.
In addition to the dozen-plus finest ice cream and frozen-dessert maestros in town—vegans will be happy!—from 1 to 3pm you can witness the artisanal spectacle of a bike-powered ice-cream churner, courtesy of the fine folks at Prospect Heights’ Ample Hills Creamery. At noon Laura Weiss will be signing and discussing her recently published Ice Cream: A Global History. Also around noon, Brooklyn Kitchen will give out “ice cream in a bag” to any interested kiddies (like baby Flea above). Finally, SmorgasBar will be serving ice cream floats featuring cocoa liqueur from Cacao Prieto Distillery (Red Hook) and Blue Marble Ice Cream vanilla scoops. Whoa!
Here’s who’s onboard. Go ahead and indulge. As New Yorkers we earned it with this week’s heat!
